I’m a bit taken with this group I discovered here in the City of Lost Angels: Free Art for Abused Children. From what I understand, there are MANY chapters. I’m aware of the one in Marina del Rey, CA. How GREAT!
FAAC (I’m sure they don’t appreciate that acronym, but I’m at a loss) takes care of kids going through the court system and helps them work through some of that anguish by completing art projects spanning 8-12 weeks at a time. Art Therapy is a growing trend that asserts emotion into creativity to release tension. Both cathartic and (if you believe that stress can cause disease) therapeutic, and overall a good cause.
Should you feel the inclination, you can call in or email the center and start your own ART SUPPLIES drive to help them decrease cost and focus on GOOD WORKS. Check out the Program Overview for a more accurate description of what they offer.
I hosted a mini-drive at my office after raiding my own cabinets at home to pull things together. We came up with a good lot! If you are crafty (good crafty, not sneaky crafty) like I am – it is a great way to properly dispose of new or lightly used supplies that go unnoticed in your home. Get to it!
